Pregame Primer: Orlando Magic (14-28) at Nets (26-18), 7:30 P.M

Tonight at 7:30 p.m., the Nets return to Barclays Center to host the Orlando Magic

The Nets are coming off two ugly losses but will hope to rebound against a team that they have already defeated three times this season.

The Magic meanwhile have lost five-straight games as they now embark on a five-game road trip.

Defending Opponents’ Centers

P.J. Carlesimo said bluntly that the Nets have done a horrible job defending opposing teams’ centers.

In the losses to the Grizzlies and the Rockets, the Nets got beat up in the paint by Marc Gasol and Omer Asik, respectively.

Nikola Vucevic did have a double-double in one of the matchups against the Nets, but he is certainly not the interior threat that Gasol and Asik posed.

Orlando’s power forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis can be a force down low however, so the Nets need to improve in this area.

Rebounding Advantage

Similar to being productive in the paint, the Nets have outrebounded the Magic in each of the past three contests.

Brooklyn has averaged about 13 offensive rebounds per game, which have led to second chance points.

The Nets will need to continue this trend to earn a win tonight.

Jameer Nelson To Face Nets

Magic point guard Jameer Nelson missed all three previous games against the Nets dealing with injury.

He’s been healthy and productive lately, giving the Magic a much-needed scoring option.

For the season, Nelson has averaged 15.3 points and 7.4 assists per game.

Fast Start from D-Will

Deron Williams did not miss a shot in the first quarter Saturday night against the Rockets which led to 20 points.

However, he managed just seven points for the rest of his time on the floor before being ejected late.

The fast start was great, but the Nets need D-Will to knock down clutch shots later in the game as well. They also need a more balanced attack, rather than getting all their scoring from one player.

The action tips off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on the YES Network and NBA TV.
