Tonight at 8 p.m., the struggling Nets head to New Orleans to take on the Hornets for the first time this season.
The Hornets have defeated the Nets in four straight games, and the last Nets’ road win in New Orleans was on March 13, 2007.
Joe Johnson is a game-time decision to return to Brooklyn’s lineup for this contest after missing two games – both losses.
Hornets Thriving at Home
The Hornets have won seven of their last 11 games at home and have averaged 100.1 points per game in their last nine.
In his last four in New Orleans, rookie sensation Anthony Davis has averaged 16.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.
Eric Gordon is averaging 20.0 points per game in the last three on his home court, including a 17-point, eight-rebound performance on Sunday.
Brooklyn Road Warriors
The Nets have somehow won three of four games on the road despite averaging 88.3 points per game and a 38.4 shooting percentage.
This trend can’t last forever, so Brooklyn must look to break out against one of the weaker teams in the Western Conference.
Wednesday night’s win in Milwaukee put the Nets above the .500 mark on the road at 13-12.
Brooklyn will have five of the next seven games – including tonight in New Orleans – on the road.
The team really has a chance to improve that road record if it can string together a solid two weeks of games.
Brook Lopez in the Fourth Quarter
P.J. Carlesimo said he’d like to get Brook Lopez back involved in games in the fourth quarter.
The All-Star center has found himself on the bench in three of the last four fourth quarters after a combination of his own struggles and good all-around play from reserve center Andray Blatche.
If Blatche is playing well, he still might get the bulk of the minutes in the final frame, but for the Nets to make any kind of run, Lopez needs to contribute late in games, especially since he can consistently get to the free-throw line.
Look for Carlesimo to make a conscious effort to put Lopez on the floor in the fourth quarter tonight.
The action tips off at 8 p.m. and can be seen on the YES Network.
