Deron Williams needed a rest on Friday night, so Jason Kidd turned to Jorge Gutierrez, who continued his NBA development.
Gutierrez started and played 28 minutes and scored 11 points (4-for-5 from the field, 3-of-4 from the line), four assists, two steals, a rebound, and two turnovers.
“If it’s Jorge who has to step in and play some minutes at point in the playoffs, I’m confident that he can do the job, and I think his teammates are too,” Kidd told reporters.
Brian ErniI have to say, I’ve been impressed with Gutierrez. Before we was waived prior to the season, he really looked like he could make an impact if need be, but was just a circumstance of the Nets’ roster being set in stone before they took the floor. Injuries have really given Gutierrez an opportunity, and I think it’s been a blessing in disguise. He has a nice shot, he seems to run the offense with confidence, and he has been taking care of the ball very well. Friday night was the most minutes he has ever played in an NBA game, a game Atlanta desperately wanted. Give Gutierrez credit that he nearly led the makeshift lineup to a W.
