The Nets (2-2) defeated the Utah Jazz (0-4) tonight by a score of 104-88.
The Least You Should Know
Brook Lopez led the way with 27 points (10-for-13 from the field, 7-for-9 from the line) in 25 minutes. He also had seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block.
Deron Williams had a team high eight assists to go along with 10 points. It was the first time Williams hit double digit points this season.
The Nets dominated the paint, as they outscored Utah 58-24 on the interior.
Brian ErniThe Nets outshot the Jazz from the field 59 percent to 35 percent in the first half, which allowed them to pull away. Integral to that early start? Brook Lopez. He looked unstoppable down low, as he manhandled Enes Kantor and Derrick Favors. Ian Eagle mentioned how huge Lopez looks even next to bigger centers, and it’s true. I believe we’re witnessing the emergence of a superstar.
Alan Anderson did not see action until the second half, as Coach Kidd tried to find a rotation that better suited the Nets needs. A lot had been made of the eight Nets players averaging 20 minutes per game, and it looked like there was a concerted effort to lean more heavily on the starting five.
Williams is getting his groove back. D-Will made a couple of sick dishes in the second quarter and cut through space nicely, which left me very encouraged about the health of his ankle. The quicker Williams regains confidence that he can make all the cuts he needs to, the faster this offense is going to gel.
Quick nod to Mason Plumlee, who played nicely in the second half, highlighted by a big fourth quarter alley-oop finish off a Shaun Livingston feed in transition. Plumlee is built to run, and he showed flashes of what he can do tonight in his 17 minutes.
Very impressive performance. The Nets needed a laugher to get a little bit of swagger back after the disappointment in Orlando. This win gives Brooklyn plenty of good vibes before heading into their first back-to-back contests of the season.
The Nets will head to Washington for a Friday night match up with the Wizards. Tip is set for 7:00 PM.
