Final Score: Bobcats 95, Nets 91

The Nets (3-8) fell to the Charlotte Bobcats (6-6) Wednesday by a score of 95-91.

The Least You Should Know

The Bobcats had 52 points in the paint, including 36 of their 53 first-half points. Charlotte also had 17 offensive rebounds on the night.

Bronx native Kemba Walker had a game-high 31 points, including a pair of free throws that iced the game in the final seconds, ending any threat of a comeback.

Down 16 points at one point, the Nets rallied in the fourth quarter to get back within two points, but were unable to get any closer.

Andray Blatche had a team-high 25 points on 11-of-14 shooting, along with seven rebounds, a steal and an assist in 29 minutes of action. He scored eight straight points at one point to help fuel Brooklyn’s last-ditch effort.

Alan Anderson had a strong game off the bench as well, with 16 points including 4-of-6 from behind the arc in 29 minutes.

Brooklyn’s interior defense was a disaster. They’ve clearly missed Brook Lopez’s rim protection more than anybody really could’ve imagined. Bismack Biyombo and Jeff Adrien combined for 16 rebounds, and the lowest scoring team in the league was able to find too many easy buckets for the Nets to withstand.

Once again, the Nets’ third-quarter woes bit them in the behind tonight, as they were outscored 30-20 in the third period to give the Bobcats enough of a cushion to propel them to victory. Even with the Nets outscoring Charlotte 21-12 in the fourth quarter, it was just too little too late. The Nets just can’t get out of their own way right now.

To make matters worse, they lost Deron Williams in the second quarter, after Williams came down awkwardly on Walker’s leg and he rolled his left ankle again. This time, the Nets weren’t able to get All-Star level heroics from Shaun Livingston again, as he shot just 1-of-5 from the field with as many turnovers (five) as assists.

The Nets will be back in action Friday night, when they face the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Target Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 pm Eastern Time.
