Josh Newman, Field ReporterAfter a productive year in the D-League last season as a rookie, 6-foot-5 guard Dominique Sutton will play in the Orlando Summer League with the Nets, his agent, Dino Pergola, told SNY.tv on Saturday afternoon.
Sutton went undrafted in 2012 after averaging 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in his one and only season at North Carolina Central. He spent his first three seasons at Kansas State, where he averaged 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 90 games.
Sutton played five games with the Orlando Magic last summer in the Vegas Summer League before catching on with the Tulsa 66ers of the D-League, averaging 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 48 contests.
Sutton is the first player confirmed for the Nets’ summer league entrant, which is also expected to include second-year Nets Tyshawn Taylor, Tornike Shengelia and Kris Joseph. The roster will be finalized in the days following Thursday’s NBA Draft.
The Nets open play at the Orlando Summer League on July 7 at Amway Center in Orlando against the Detroit Pistons at 5 p.m. That game will also serve as the unofficial coaching debut for new Nets head coach Jason Kidd.
