Mike Mazzeo of ESPN New York reported today that Deron Williams spoke to GM Billy King after signing back on with the Brooklyn Nets and told King his feelings. Williams was tired of the “Dwightmare” drama that followed the Nets for the last year and wanted the Nets to move on. What did King have to say about the conversation.
“One thing Deron did say to me, he said, ‘Please, just don’t wait on Dwight. We can’t wait and not have a team,’ ” King said during the premiere of NBA TV’s “The Association: Brooklyn Nets,” which will air on Oct. 16.
“The team of Brooklyn is bigger than one person. I owed it to the organization, I owed it to our fans, I owed it to Deron and the players that we have to build for Brooklyn, and we went forward and built our team.”
The Nets organization was held hostage last year by the Dwight Howard talk and trade scenarios that came up daily. Williams did not have an issue with admitting that it took a toll on the Nets players and a resolution was needed. King and Williams seem to be on the same page as the roster came together quickly in the weeks following their talk.
The Nets main focus is on what is right in front of them November 1st and not what is behind them.
