Andray Blatche to start in place of Kevin Garnett

The Nets’ game notes had Reggie Evans listed as the probable starter with Kevin Garnett resting on the second night of a back-to-back, but that will not be the case. Jason Kidd announced during his pregame media availability that Andray Blatche will start in place of Kevin Garnett.

Blatche starting is an interesting development as Jason Kidd told the media he wants to see the combination of Blatche and Brook Lopez on the blocks.

That Blatche-Lopez combination played very well down the stretch last season when the Nets were jockeying for playoff position, as well as the seven-game first-round loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Assuming Garnett continues to warm up to the idea of not playing the second half of back-to-backs, someone is going to need to step into those minutes at power forward and Kidd appears intent on seeing what he has in Blatche, who flourished at times last season, both as a starter and in a reserve role.

Evans could be the first big man off the bench against the Celtics, but it’s also worth noting that Mirza Teletovic hit five 3-pointers off the bench Monday evening at the Sixers. It’s no secret the Nets want to take a long, hard look at Teletovic, who is in the second year of a 3-year, $9 million deal.

That’s a lot of players looking to secure time at the 4, but maybe not enough minutes to go around.
