The red-hot Brooklyn Nets will make their only visit to Memphis tonight as the club looks to improve upon the 12-2 record that its compiled under the guidance of interim head coach, P.J. Carlesimo.
The action tips off at 8:00 P.M. on the YES Network. Here is your pregame primer.
The NBA media world is mostly in agreement: Brook Lopez deserved to be an all-star and the fact that he isn’t is quite curious. Lopez will be matched up against Marc Gasol tonight—one of the league’s best two-ways centers—and if he’s looking to send a message to the coaches that opted to not vote for him, it’d be a fine time for his Brooklyn Nets.
The Nets are currently in the midst of a four-game road trip that opened up in New York on Monday night, continued in Minneapolis on Wednesday night and will feature tonight’s game in Memphis. If the Nets want to prove that they’re a legitimate team, they’ll have to beat winning teams on the road, and that’s the opportunity that the club will have tonight.
Rudy Gay has been rumored to be on the trading block since the Memphis Grizzlies are concerned with paying the NBA’s luxury tax over the next few years. One of the many teams that have been linked to him is the Nets. That’s no surprise, but the Nets will get a close look at Gay tonight and if he torches them, it may leave an impression and help spark the Nets interest in him to new heights.
One Game Behind in the Division
The Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics in Boston on Thursday night and maintain a one game lead in the division. If the Nets are to not lose any additional ground, they’ll have to win a tough game in Memphis tonight, where the Grizzlies are 16-6.
New Look Grizzlies
On Tuesday, the Grizzlies traded Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, Josh Selby and a future first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Jon Leuer. The move was made to save the Grizzlies approximately $6 million, but the team’s depth has been compromised in the process. The Grizzlies defeated the Los Angeles Lakers this past Tuesday and will look to improve to 2-0 since completing the trade.
