Brook Lopez made his first All-Star appearance this past weekend and all Nets fans hope that the experience will vault him to greater heights. Lopez is one of the quieter professional athletes you will ever encounter and people tend to perceive that for being lackadaisical, but after playing on the brightest stage it should do wonders for his confidence.
Being a part of a special group like the All-Stars is an achievement that some players never get, so Lopez cherished his time with the team.
“It was crazy to be sitting on the bench with guys like KG (Kevin Garnett), LeBron (James), Melo (Carmelo Anthony), to see them, and then we had so many first-time All-Stars,” Lopez, who leads all NBA centers in scoring this season (19.0 ppg), said. “So there were definitely a lot of the vets who were telling us to really take our time to appreciate this, take a lot from this and learn from it.”
As for being considered one of the league’s elite players, Lopez said, “It was definitely cool being grouped in that category. It was an honor in that regard. Just being out on the floor and seeing what those guys were doing was pretty impressive.”
John Paolantonio, ContributorLopez didn’t have a great game against the Bucks on Tuesday night, but he will have the opportunity to quickly redeem himself when the Nets finish up their home-and-home with the Bucks on Wednesday.
Once the trading deadline passes on Thursday night, even though Lopez says he isn’t concerned with the trade rumors, we can probably expect to see a renewed focus from him as the Nets try to finish up the season strong.
